Tales of the Unexpected
Even the best-planned projects will occasionally reveal unusual or unexpected surprises, but the key is not to be fazed by them and know how to respond. Restoration often reveals hidden rot and beetle infestations, but during one church project we discovered and restored an important seventeenth century ledgerstone from beneath the chancel floor. Elsewhere, what at first appeared to be a straightforward pond restoration resulted in the removal of 15 tons of render before we could install our new lining, and on another occasion we found ourselves repairing a folly on a cliff edge, one mile from the nearest road.
