Successful conservation work requires a detailed understanding of traditional buildings and materials, and a sensitive, thoughtful and restrained approach to their repair and alteration. Our philosophy is to use minimum and sympathetic intervention so that as much of the historic fabric is retained, and to ensure that new work is reversible, legible and sustainable. We achieve this by applying restraint from altering those features that provide historic buildings with their special qualities, by undertaking the minimum necessary to stabilise and conserve elements of significance, and by avoiding unnecessary intervention and replacement.
